Mynatt Park tennis courts

GATLINBURG, Tenn.—The tennis courts at the Don Watson Tennis Center, located at Mynatt Park, will close beginning May 11 to undergo an extensive renovation and resurfacing project.

The courts will remain closed for the duration of the project, which is currently scheduled for completion by the end of August.

The project will include milling and replacing the existing court surfaces to enhance playability and longevity. Additional improvements at the Don Watson Tennis Center will include replacing the current wooden borders with concrete and installing new perimeter fencing around each court, significantly upgrading both the functionality and appearance of the facility.

“We understand that this temporary closure may be an inconvenience,” said Gatlinburg Recreation Director Laurence Evans. for the City of Gatlinburg. “These improvements are an important investment in the long-term quality of this facility. When complete, the Don Watson Tennis Center will offer a safer, more durable, and more enjoyable experience for players, and will further enhance the overall appeal of Mynatt Park as one of our community’s premier recreational spaces.”

The pickleball courts at the Tennis Center will remain open as construction allows during this time frame. Individuals can call the Recreation Department at 865-436-4990 to confirm if these courts are open.

This project represents the final phase of a series of major improvements at Mynatt Park that began in 2021. Previous enhancements have included the installation of ADA-accessible pathways throughout the park and improved access to LeConte Creek, the addition of pickleball courts to the Don Watson Tennis Center, the rthe construction of the 2016 Wildfires Memorial and Tribute Plaza, the reinstallation of the youth baseball and softball facilities, the resurfacing of the basketball courts, pavilion and restroom renovations, and the addition of a new playground.
