GATLINBURG, Tenn.— A portion of the Parkway and Reagan Drive will close on Thursday morning, December 4, for a sendoff celebration for the Gatlinburg-Pittman High School football team.
Parkway will be closed from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. between its intersections with Reagan Drive and Cherokee Orchard Road. A small portion of Reagan Drive will be closed for staging of buses for the event.
The Highlanders, who play in the Class AAA State Championship game on Friday at 11 a.m. in Chattanooga, will walk down the Parkway beginning at 9:30 a.m. as part of the sendoff celebration. The walk will begin at the intersection of Reagan Drive and conclude at the intersection of Cherokee Orchard Road.
Alumni of the GPHS football team and former coaches are encouraged to meet with the current football team at the intersection of Reagan Drive to participate in the walk, which will also include GPHS cheerleaders and band members. Alumni should be at the Parkway/Reagan Drive intersection at 9 a.m.
Businesses and community members are encouraged wear their blue and gold, make signs of encouragement, and line the Parkway for this special sendoff to wish the team well, as it competes for its first state championship in program history. Brief remarks will be held at the conclusion of the walk when the team arrives at the intersection of Parkway and Cherokee Orchard Road.
The Highlanders will battle Westview on Friday morning at 11 a.m. from Finley Stadium on the campus of the University of Tennessee Chattanooga.
