GATLINBURG, Tenn.—A new parking lot, offering expanded availability of parking for downtown Gatlinburg business employees will be open on Friday, June 13 at 8 a.m. This expansion reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to supporting its workforce and improving accessibility to downtown areas.
The new parking lot, located at the intersection of Bishop Lane and Stephen Drive, is the second permit-only facility operated by the City. It was formerly utilized as a Mass Transit storage area and has now been fully repurposed to provide an additional 75 dedicated parking spaces for qualifying permit holders. In 2022, the City opened a permit-only lot at Newton Lane, which provides 117 spaces, giving the City nearly 200 spaces dedicated to those who work at downtown businesses.
City Manager Greg Patterson emphasized the importance of the new lot in supporting Gatlinburg’s economic vitality.
“It is essential that the City provides practical solutions for the people who keep it running—our local workforce,” Patterson said. “The City is committed to helping its businesses and their employees access their jobs more conveniently while also reducing strain on public parking resources. This is a meaningful investment in the Gatlinburg business community for their valuable employees.”
To be eligible for a monthly parking permit, individuals must provide proof of employment with a downtown Gatlinburg business. Permits are available at a rate of $30 per month and can be purchased in person at the City’s Customer Service Center, located at 912 East Parkway. The center is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and also provides a convenient drive-thru lane for customers.
