Mynatt Park Playground

GATLINBURG, Tenn.—A newly completed playground at Mynatt Park has opened a new playground, which is a vibrant and inclusive recreational area designed for children of all abilities and ages to enjoy. This exciting enhancement marks the continuing renovation of Mynatt Park.

Spanning over 5,600 square feet, the new playground features a range of cutting-edge play structures and amenities carefully selected to foster active, imaginative, and inclusive play. Central to the design is the playground equipment, designed for children ages 5–12, which is complemented by an Inclusive Play structure designed to accommodate children with diverse physical and sensory needs.

“This new playground is more than just a play space — it’s a statement about the City’s commitment to providing quality and enriching recreational opportunities,” said Laurence Evans, Recreation Director for the City of Gatlinburg. “From the musical elements to the specially designed swings and accessible surfacing, we’ve taken great care to ensure this playground welcomes all families and children, regardless of ability.”

The playground features a total of eight swings, including four double swings, two toddler-to-adult face-to-face swings, a pair of older child swings which faces the adult, and two swings specially designed for children with special abilities. There are also musical and sensory play elements, an inclusive spinning ride that allows children to play together, shade structures, synthetic turf, and multiple slides and climbing features.

The playground upgrade is the latest phase in a series of enhancements to Mynatt Park. Over the past several years, the park has seen notable improvements in infrastructure, with an accessibility project, the renovated youth baseball and softball field, and upgraded amenities.

“We want to sincerely thank the Mynatt Park community for their incredible patience and support during the construction period,” said Greg Patterson, City Manager. “This playground represents not just a physical improvement, but our ongoing promise to invest in high-quality recreation spaces that bring people together.”

The City invites residents and visitors alike to experience the joy of the new playground and share in this celebration of inclusive outdoor recreation.
