Work to begin milling and paving on River Road began on April 22 in downtown Gatlinburg.
Meeting in its regular session electronically on Tuesday evening, the Gatlinburg City Commission approved Charles Blalock and Sons to perform the work.
Crews began work on Wednesday morning on the project and are expected to take two weeks to complete the work. During construction, the portion of River Road from its intersection with Parkway to Leconte Street has been closed.
Work on ‘The Triangle’ at the intersection of River Road and Parkway continues and has been underway since April 13. Construction on the intersection improvement project, designed to better assist vehicle and pedestrian traffic flows, is expected to be completed on April 30. Installation of traffic control boxes, pedestrian signalization and traffic signal poles will occur after the equipment arrives in mid-summer.
