Gatlinburg Trout Madness season competition to be held March 28 - May 8

GATLINBURG, Tenn.—A new virtual fishing tournament, hosted by the Gatlinburg Parks and Recreation Department, is coming to the fishing waters inside the City of Gatlinburg.

Beginning on Sunday, March 28 and running through Saturday, May 8, the Gatlinburg Trout Madness Season Competition will be held. The six-week competition will award weekly winners, as well as a season winner.

Trout Madness

The Tournament will be held as a catch, measure, photograph and release format and competitors will be permitted to use only one handheld rod and reel at one time, with the use of multiple rods not permitted. A 10-trout aggregate score, calculated in length, will be kept on a weekly basis. Rainbow Trout is the only fish species that will count towards a competitor's total score. All competitors must use certified measuring devices and must be seen in the photograph.

All competitors will be expected to follow all local and state regulations, including possessing a valid Tennessee Fishing License for Gatlinburg, which include Sportsman License, Lifetime Sportsman License, Annual Senior Citizen Sportsman License, Resident/Non-Resident Gatlinburg One-Day Trout Permit, or a combination of the following: Annual Hunting and Fishing Combination, Annual Trout, Gatlinburg Trout Daily or Gatlinburg 3-Day Trout Permit.

Individuals may enter for the entire season for a $30 fee, making them eligible for weekly and season-ending prizes. Alternatively, competitors may enter weekly at $10 per week, however those individuals will only be eligible for weekly prizes. Entry fees will go towards fishing related prizes for season winners. Weekly prizes include: a gift certificate to Smoky Mountain Angler, passes to SkyLift Park, Anakeesta admission passes for two, Ober Gatlinburg passes and Gatlin’s Fun Center passes.
