Gatlinburg Parks and Recreation Department receives TRPA Award

TRPA 4-STAR WINNER

GATLINBURG, Tenn.—The Gatlinburg Parks and Recreation Department has been bestowed a Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association (TRPA) award.

The Department’s annual Halloween Spooktacular, which provides a safe trick-or-treating experience for the community, was awarded a TRPA Four Star Best Special Event Award for the 2019 event. The annual Spooktacular, which is held on the campus of Rocky Top Sports World, also involves the local business community by inviting organizations to participate by handing out candy to those participating in the event, as well as costume contests and more each year. The 2020 version of the event was modified due to COVID-19 protocols.

The TRPA’s Four Star Awards program recognizes excellence and community impact by agencies and are not awarded by divisions or Department size.

The TRPA Awards were held virtually in November as part of the organization’s 69th Annual Conference.
