The City of Gatlinburg's Sanitation Department strives to maintain the beauty and cleanliness of the City through daily business and residential trash pick-up. Due to Gatlinburg's tourist industry the volume of trash during peak visitation can present challenges, but sanitation crews work 364 days a year to maintain the City's standard of cleanliness.
After trash collection, sanitation crews take trash to a transfer station located behind the Wastewater Treatment plant, where it is transferred into a refuse trailer and taken to the Sevier County Solid Waste facility located on Ridge Road in Pigeon Forge. The process of collection, transfer and dumping, mostly unseen by the public, is critical to Gatlinburg's standard of cleanliness.
Approximately 500 dumpsters are located within Gatlinburg and serviced from once a week to daily depending on the customer's request. Commercial curbside pick-up is also available – click here to see the Garbage Pick-up page for more information.
The City of Gatlinburg requires all trash containers be animal resistant to protect the prolific wildlife from being habituated to human food. For more information regarding these guidelines, please see the Black Bear Management Program page.
Residential crews work Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Pick-up for dumpsters occurs 7 days a week from 3:00 AM - 11:30 AM
